FECAL ELASTASE

Fecal elastase is a digestive enzyme produced by the pancreas that is measured in a stool sample to assess pancreatic function. A fecal elastase test can diagnose exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), a condition where the pancreas doesn’t produce enough digestive enzymes, leading to symptoms like diarrhea, bloating, and weight loss. Low levels of fecal elastase indicate that the pancreas is not functioning properly.
